In this study effects of burrowing by badgers and foxes on forest soil and vegetation were examined. Burrow digging resulted in increasing topsoil alkalinity and changing the availability of some nutrients. Soil disturbances supported higher diversity of herbaceous and woody plants, and favoured the occurrence of fugitive and nutrient demanding species. Badgers had stronger impact on soil and vegetation...
The aim of the research was to assess the degree of damage to spruce trees and stands and to study their growth responses to the changing environmental conditions in the Sowie Mountains (Central Sudety Mts.). To assess the degree of damage to trees, three methods based on crown characteristics were used. The types of growth responses of trees to changing environmental conditions were additionally...
The paper presents variability in morphological traits of trees in mature Scots pine stands exposed to wind. The analysed parameters included breast height diameter, tree height and length, diameter, lateral area and crown base area. Except for the crown base area and crown diameter, values of the other traits increased with an increase in the distance from the edge of the stand. Crown diameter in...
The paper reviews the composition of commissions taking decisions regarding the final forms of forest management plans in Poland after the Second World War and analyses regulations from the instructions of forest management plans from 1957, 1970, 1980, 1994, 2003 and 2012 referring to the participation of the respective communities in this process. The aim of this study was to have another look at...
The presence of microorganisms in the substrate is detected with increasing frequency using chemical methods. During the first 9 weeks ergosterol concentration in sterile or not sterile soil inoculated with one of the damping−off fungi reached 966 µg/g, while number of colony forming units (cfu) went up to 247×103 cfu/g. Ergosterol concentration was correlated with the size of the soil fungal community...
The article presents a cross−cutting approach to the diversification of financial effectiveness in state−owned forests, i.e. in the arrangement of regional directorates. The classic TOPSIS method was used for analysis of the financial effectiveness of Regional Directorates of State Forests in 2011. The results of the analysis proved high diversification in financial effectiveness between regional...
This paper reviews the structure and formation of periderm and rhytidome in organs both of coniferous and broadleaves trees, in respect to their protective role. The periderm, which is composed of three tissues such as meristematic phellogen giving rise to suberized phellem at the outer side and phelloderm at the inner side. In older organs peridem is replaced with rhytidome composed of dead cells...
Phytosociological relevés from a natural acidophilous oak forest Calamagrostio−Quercetum, as well as Scots pine, Douglas fir and beech plantations located in the same habitat were analysed. Our investigations did not confirm the negative effect of Scots pine on biodiversity. We observed a decline of species number with the decrease of light availability. The undergrowth biodiversity in the oak forest...
